pictures, pictures, pictures.....

Well, I finally broke down and got one of these!
I had a point and shoot camera but the battery died. A new battery cost $59 and I would just rather buy a newer camera than spend $60 on a 5 year old camera. You’re probably thinking, why does she want a point and shoot when she has a SLR camera? Well, I’m very picky about pictures….I love photography….but I don’t always like professional looking pictures of me and Kaz for a couple of reasons….1 I don’t always want to carry my big camera around with me. Sometimes even if I’m on vacation and I have the big camera it still feels like work. I still have to edit the pictures….2, Not a lot of people knows how to use an SLR camera so I’m always disappointed in the pictures after they are taken. And to be honest, I get nervous handing some stranger a $1500+ camera that my business runs off of! 3, I like bad pictures SOMETIMES….I love looking at pictures and to be honest some of the worst pictures are my favorite when it comes to my family [NOT PROFFESIONALLY speaking…I would never give someone a BAD picture professionally]. Does this make any sense whatsoever? I honestly feel bad sometimes putting pictures on my personal blog that aren’t professional. I know a lot of photographers who would never do that. For me, most of the pictures taken that are on this blog are from my iphone. I don’t want every picture taken of my family to be perfect so please don’t criticize my photography skills based off of some pictures on this blog:)
So anyway, I’m loving my new Kodak point and shoot camera! :)

Speaking of pictures, how do you store yours? Currently, with my personal pictures, I create new albums and upload them to Snapfish. I’m trying to create a photo book for every year of our marriage so anytime I upload an album I automatically create 1-2 pages in the book and design those 2 pages. That way it’s a process and not something I have to spend 4 hours on at the end of the year going back through pictures trying to figure out which ones to use. BUT my problem is I have a HUGE box full of pictures and CDs that just sit in my closet. Most of them are just pictures-No digital record such as a CD all the way back through high school. I don’t know what to do with them….I don’t have the time to put all of them in an album, but I hate the thought of them just sitting in a box unorganized. I think honestly those are my only 2 options though….I’m confused and don’t know what to do….As you know, pictures are very important to me so I want to keep them but they are useless sitting in a box because I will probably never go through them if I ever did want to look at them. An album would work but it would take awhile for me to get them all put together. I literally have probably 2000+ pictures that I’m talking about…..Urggggg-What to do:(

How do you store your pictures? Tell me the good and the bad experiences that you’ve had!

I store all my photos in albums by year on my computer that we backup. And I am incredibly obsessed with them being in order by date!!

I have random stashes of pictures around my house from a few years ago. I actually quit printing out pictures unless I have a certain place I want to display it. We just store all of our pictures on the computer in folders by month and year.

My fear is losing all the pictures I have... I have a huge box full of pictures too... TRY (with that being a key word) to keep up on those with scrapbooking - a SIMPLE scrapbook too - not some of the amazing ones I've seen... I do love the photo books that photo places offer too... but I upload them to Picasa as well as where I order them - be it Kodak, Snapfish or Walgreens...

I made "actual-pictures-behind-clear-film" albums throughout high school, but beyond that I have begun making albums through a online resource... It is definitely the easiest option out there!

I totally agree about having both an SLR and a little point & shoot. I was just thinking yesterday about buying a new little point & shoot (to replace one that just stopped working on the 1st day of our month long road trip last fall ... ugh!).

I LOVE my Nikon D70, but it was always nice to have my little Canon to throw in my purse or put in my coat pocket.

What to do with photos? Scrapbooking! Gotta do it! Yes, it will take time (possibly a few years) to get "caught up", but it will be so very worth it.

I have scrapbooked for almost 15 years. If my house were to burn down, seriously, the albums are my first priority to grab while running out of the house.

I love my little Kodak...I have the same one but it's blue! Now that I have my SLR, I call it my "purse" camera, because I always have it in my purse.

I'm pretty uneasy about hanging my SLR camera to people I don't know....well, I am uneasy about handing it to some people that I do know!

And I scrapbook my pictures...I am all about simple pages, completed albums. I use stickers and paper...but not tons and tons, just enough to add a little something....after all it's all about the picture and the writing about the stories!

I love my SLR but I totally right there with you on not wanting to drag it every where. I need to find a point and shoot camera to just keep in my purse.

As far as keeping pictures, I have them by month saved on the computer and then we have an external hard drive that we back them up on.

I have a diaper bag camera in addition to my DSLR. And I totally understand you entire post. :)

I organize my pics by year folders, and month folders. In the month if a big holiday or bday happens, I add a fodler to that month. Every few months (should be more often) I back up on external hard drive.

I too do a photobook from Shutterfly every year of our family, and for big events or trips. I also did the children's 1st year albums that way, and I will do an album for them individually every 4-5 years. Like at 5, 10, end of middle school,. end of high school. etc. If we even are using digital pics by that point. HA!

Ditto. Point, shoot, Snapfish. Easy cheesy.

Oh my gosh. I have TONS of pics of the girls that have never seen the light of day. Im terrified that something will happen to the computer and I would have NONE of the pics left! Im starting to save them to CD's!

I like some not-so-professional pictures, too. I love walking through my sister's house (she's 13 years older than me, so she grew up with a 35 mm) and looking at pictures of her & her husband that may not be the greatest quality, but they have a unique touch to them.

As far as picture storing, I have an external hard drive that I use (although I haven't backed up my pictures in about 3 years). I also put almost all of my pictures on Facebook (even though I know it distorts the resolution) and I try to print my pictures every 6 months (although I'm about a year behind!). I'm sure there's a better way out there, but I love my external hard drive. My only problem is that I can't figure out how to put my iphoto albums on an external without duplicating all the pictures on my computer!
